Gildas Quartet

Jessie Montgomery: “Break Away”
Philip Cashian: String Quartet No. 2
Schubert: Quartet No.14 in d minor (“Death and the Maiden”)

The Gildas Quartet, praised for their ‘energy, verve and refreshing approach’ have performed to critical acclaim at major venues including the Barbican, Bridgewater Hall, Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and live on BBC Radio 3. Their bold and explorative approach to performance was recognised by the International Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition, Graz, where they won first prize in 2018. They have given recitals at the Two Moors and other international festivals, as well as touring across the UK and in Europe, China and South Africa.

Equally passionate about new music and standard classics, the Gildas Quartet has collaborated with many eminent British composers. They commissioned Philip Cashian’s String Quartet No. 2, which was given its premiere by them at the St Magnus Festival in Orkney: its English premiere will be with the Saint Boniface Concert Society in Crediton paired as originally intended with Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” quartet. Amongst many projects to support amateur and student players, Surround Sound and online groups have gained a loyal following across the UK and abroad.
